Quick detachable steel base with 4 screw 1 inch rings 5mm high known as medium height. These bases are typically used on expensive European rifles and a ideal companion for your Sabatti or FAIR double rifle. The base is offset to an ideal length for mounting on double rifles for the correct eye relief. The unique quick detachable system is patented by Contessa and is adjustable for dovetails from 12mm to 14 mm. it has a positive lock but yet allows for quick easy release like no other system. The hardened steel recoil lug is removable should you mount this on a rimfire rifle without a recoil lug cut. The rear scope ring is also adjustable for Windage. The rings are unique with a relief grove in the center so that the griping surface is essentially a band at the front and rear of each ring directly inline with the clamping screws. This essentially allows the rings to get a double bite on the scope and eliminate slippage under heavy recoil of large African calibers such as 500 Nitro Express. One of the great advantages of using the 12mm dovetail system is it allows for a very low profile dovetail usually cut in the gun or a low profile dovetail base mounted on the gun receiver or in the case of double rifles a slim base that straddles the rib so that when the quick release scope mount is removed you can view the open sights without the mount blocking you vision as with American mounts. This mounts are very popular with European hunters but are very rare in the USA do to their cost and American guns typically use home grown mounting systems.
